Cabernet Syrah Reserve 2015
This is a blend of both Hill Country as well as High Plains Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The aging of the Cabernet was predominately carried out in French Oak, while the Syrah was aged in American Oak. The total new oak for this blend is 35%, with the balance in barrels 2 – 4 years old. The result is wine that has the weight to stand up to a heavier food such as beef while still enjoying a glass without any food accompaniment if that is your desire.
The grapes where harvested over a four week period which allows us to pick the best of each varietal lot to become the Cab Syrah for this vintage. By controlling the picking row by row for this program our control over the character of the finished wine is displayed in the fuller mouth feel of the wine as well as the fresh fruit forward aromas.
We used three of our best High Plains vineyards to supply part of the Cabernet and the balance of the Cabernet came from our vineyards here at Becker. The Syrah portion of this blend was grown both here at Becker in Stonewall as well as our Becker Vineyard in Mason County.
