Carignan 2017

Carignan: a grape whose origins are lost in the mists of time and legend. Did the Phoenicians bring this grape to the French coast in the 300 BC’s or is this grape native to the Aragon region of north west Spain. Today, the grape is often found in Rhone and Northern Spanish blends, lending color and tannin.
Sourced from the Reddy Vineyards in Brownfield, TX, Carignan is a late blooming and late ripening varietal, which makes it a wonderful fit for the Texas High Plains. In this standalone varietal bottling, you will find a light-bodied, floral wine which belies the plush tannic structure. Gentle handling of the grapes during the relatively cool fermentation ensures the floral and fruit-driven characters are in tack.
Aromatics: Savory herbs, dried roses, black plums, mild black pepper and fresh tobacco
On the Palate: Thyme, dried herbs, blackberries and mild cherry, mild tannins balanced against the acid and fruit
