Prairie Rotie 2015
The 2015 Prairie Rotie is as much a story as it is a wine. First, the label: a young Richard Becker and good friend Tony Bell, traveling home one weekend, stopped to get a haircut. During the haircut, Tony Bell sketched this depiction. This is one of many precious pieces of Tony Bell’s artwork we are proud to label our wine.
Second, the idea behind the wine: the Beckers recognized the comparable climates of the French Rhone region and Texas. So why not plant Rhone varietals? Not only did the Beckers plant Rhone varietals on their own vineyards, they encourage growers on the High Plains to do the same. Today, we have several varietals grown across Texas. While this wine’s composition may change with every vintage, the heart behind it stays the same.
2015 Prairie Rotie combines Texas High Plains and Texas Hill Country fruit. Blending Mourvedre and Carignan from Reddy Vineyards of Texas High Plains complements Texas Hill Country’s Merlot and Barbera from the vineyards of Drew Tallent (Mason County) and our own Becker Estate Vineyards and Peter’s Prairie Vineyards. The wines were aged in a mixture of French and American oak barrels, with 40% of those barrels being new French oak. This allows the subtlety of the fruit to shine while lending toasted vanilla notes and soft tannins.
Aromatics: Dried rose, coriander, earth and hints of toasted vanilla
On the Palate: Cranberry, dried Bing Cherries, clove and allspice with lingering tannins and coffee on the back palate

My girlfriend loves Pinot noir , I am not a wine drinker . I asked if they had any Pinot , they did not but I was asked to try this one. I did not want to say I was not a wine drinker so I tasted it and I must say it was very good. Bought a bottle and took it to my girlfriend and she loved it. We buy this bottle often.

After trying this wine ordered more! Fantastic by itself or paired with dinner. My wife is generally not a fan of reds but insisted on ordering more.
